Michele Ragusa’s homecomings are always memorable. With her Broadway experience, she can carry off a style all her own. Last April, playing the shrewish Kate in the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s treatment of “Kiss Me Kate,” she grabbed Associate Conductor Matthew Kraemer and actually spanked him. Four years ago, she starred in the best Holiday Pops concert I can recall. Her strong, pretty voice and natural gift for comedy fit perfectly with the occasion.
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, because Ragusa, the BPO, the Philharmonic Chorus and Music Director JoAnn Falletta are teaming up again for this year’s Holiday Pops. The crowd in glittering Kleinhans Music Hall also will hear from Immaculata Academy’s Vox Caeciliae and the choruses of Barker Central, Oakfield-Alabama and West Seneca West high schools. Let’s not give away the program. Just like on Christmas morning, surprises are part of the fun.
There are four performances: at 10:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. Friday; 8 p.m. Saturday; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday Admission is $32-$79. For info, call 885-5000.
