We should count ourselves lucky. Or at least, those among us who are fans of the Allman Brothers Band should count ourselves lucky. The revered Southern rock/jam/blues hybrid is doing only a limited late summer run this year, what with the variety of endeavors Gregg Allman, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Oteil Burbridge, Marc Quinones, Butch Trucks and Jaimoe are involved in. (Allman has his own solo band. Trucks and Burbridge are both heavily engaged with the Tedeschi-Trucks Band. Haynes fronts Gov’t Mule and also did a run of “guitar and orchestra” tributes to the music of Jerry Garcia this summer. Drummer Jaimoe has his own group as well.)
For six dates, the band will be joined by legendary Traffic and Spencer Davis Group singer/keyboardist/guitarist Steve Winwood. Happily, the first of these six takes place at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center. No official word on whether Winwood will jam with the AB Band, but hey, a guy can hope, can’t he?
Tickets are $35-$65 for reserved seats, $29.50 for general admission lawn (www.livenation.com).
