Seventeen galleries, studios and nontraditional art spaces across the city will fling open their doors this weekend for the 13th annual Holiday Open Studios and Galleries event, which runs from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The popular affair, organized by Artists in Buffalo, was designed to encourage Buffalonians to funnel some of their holiday shopping dollars into the local art and craft economy.
Much of the action will take place in the Burchfield Penney Art Center (1300 Elmwood Ave.), where 34 artists and organizations will be selling their wares. The American Red Cross Building (786 Delaware Ave.) will host another 25 artists and groups, with the rest scattered across 15 more shops and galleries. Other participating venues include the Elmwood Village Association (1068 Elmwood Ave.), Coming Home Buffalo (138 and 142 Elmwood Ave.), Impact Gallery (2495 Main St.) and the Chatham Pottery Studio (190 Bryant St.).
Like the Allentown Art Festival, the event is eclectic. Featured exhibitors range from fine artists including Alixandra Martin at Ro (732 Elmwood Ave.) and Laurie Tanner at Pausa Art House (19 Wadsworth St.) to purveyors of handcrafted gifts, jewelry and other products.
