Chef’s, the popular Italian eatery on Seneca Street near downtown, will be closed through Wednesday, following a serious water-main break discovered late Sunday afternoon.

That break, discovered shortly after 5 p.m., flooded the second floor, kitchen and dining room, while leaving 3 inches of water on the banquet floor, emergency officials reported.

The flooding was caused by a broken sprinkler pipe in the attic stairwell, according to Buffalo fire officials.

The restaurant will be closed for lunch, dinner and banquets. And the pick-up window also will be closed, despite some reports to the contrary. Drop-off catering orders, though, will be honored.

“The Billittier family wish to thank the Buffalo Fire Department for their swift response Sunday afternoon responding to alarms that were triggered after the problem started,” restaurant officials stated in an email. “The restaurant was closed at the time. The family apologizes for any inconvenience to customers, and appreciates their patience.”
