More than 100 firefighters responded to an approximately 4:30 a.m. alarm at Wells Camping Center, on Olean Road.
“It’s a complete loss,” Holland Fire Chief Mike O’Connor said from the scene, at about 8:15 a.m. “It was a very extensive, rapid fire spread. We lost the whole building.”
Dozens of volunteer firefighters from an estimated 10 to 15 fire companies were able to contain the fire from spreading to other buildings, authorities said.
The cause remains under investigation for the blaze, which broke out in the north end of the one-story building, O’Connor said.
A two-sentence item on the Holland Central Schools’ website stated that staff and students were asked not to report to their schools today.
