Newton’s final run?...

Wayne Newton is telling fans “Danke schoen” after 50 years in Las Vegas and hinting that his latest run could be his last. But the singer synonymous with Sin City says he’s leaving himself an opening in case he wants to perform after April. The man known throughout the world as “Mr. Las Vegas” says retirement is possible, but that decision won’t hinge on the success of his new show that opened Wednesday night at the Tropicana Las Vegas hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

Instead, he says, it depends on whether his itch to keep working conflicts with his desire to spend more time with his 7-year-old daughter.

“I’m enjoying my second daughter in a way that I didn’t get a chance to do the first time around,” Newton, 67, told the Associated Press on Wednesday. “The decision that I make, whether or not to perform or retire, will pretty much be based on that.”

Newton said writing his new show, “Once Before I Go,” has taken a toll on him and will likely be emotional to perform nightly.

‘Sent from God’ ...

Sting isn’t a religious man, but he says President Obama might be a divine answer to the world’s problems.

“In many ways, he’s sent from God,” he joked in an interview, “because the world’s a mess.”

But Sting is serious in his belief that Obama is the best leader to navigate the world’s problems. In an interview Wednesday, the former Police frontman said that he spent some time with Obama and “found him to be very genuine, very present, clearly super-smart and exactly what we need in the world.” Still, Sting acknowledged the president had a “difficult job” ahead of him.

The British singer, who released the seasonal album “On a Winter’s Night” this week, said he’s fascinated by American politics. Sting, 58, said he’s hopeful that the world’s problems can be dealt with, but is frustrated that “we seem to be living in a currency of medieval ideas.”

“My hope is that we can start talking about real issues and not caring about whether God cares about your hemline or your color,” he said. “We are here to evolve as one family, and we can’t be separate anymore.”

Against her will ...

An investigator says a nanny who worked for Anna Nicole Smith told him that the former Playboy model’s boyfriend and psychiatrist drugged her up against her will.

Department of Justice investigator Danny Santiago testified Thursday at a preliminary hearing about an interview he had with the nanny in the Bahamas in September.

Santiago says Nadine Alexie saw Smith’s boyfriend, Howard K. Stern, and Dr. Khristine Eroshevich force Smith to take drugs that kept her asleep for days.

Santiago says the nanny claimed Smith would wake up with feces and vomit in her bed.

The hearing will determine whether Stern, Eroshevich and Dr. Sandeep Kapoor stand trial on charges of illegally funneling drugs to Smith.

Smith died of an accidental drug overdose in 2007.
