Story tools:

Q: Where have I seen the actress who plays the U. S. marshal on “In Plain Sight” before? — Sue Raymond, Baltimore

A: Mary McCormack previously had series roles on “The West Wing,” “Murder One” and HBO’s “K Street,” and her movies have included “Private Parts” “Deep Impact,” “K-PAX,” “Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star” and “1408.”

Broadway audiences also have seen her lately as one of several stewardesses romanced by the same man in “Boeing Boeing,” for which McCormack got a Tony nomination. She also got some good news about her USA Network series recently, since a second season of “In Plain Sight” has been picked up.

Q: Is Thomas Haden Church of the TV movie “Broken Trail” the same actor who had the role of the mechanic on “Wings”? — Richard DeWalt, Springfield, Ohio

A: Yes, he played Lowell in the long-running NBC sitcom. His other notable movie roles of recent years have included Paul Giamatti’s wine-country-traveling buddy in “Sideways,” the villain known as Sandman in “Spider- Man 3” and Dennis Quaid’s adopted brother in “Smart People.”

Q: What is the reason for “Million Dollar Password” being on one Sunday, off one Sunday, etc.? — Lee Smith, Tecumseh, Mich.

A: It was off CBS one Sunday in June for the Tony Awards, and it was gone for a while in July, since “Big Brother” returned in its customary Sunday summer slot.

Based on the ratings performance of the Regis Philbinhosted game show, the network has ordered six additional episodes of the updated “Password”; repeats are airing this month at 9 p. m. Sundays following “Big Brother.”

Q: I was wondering if “Nip/Tuck” will be back for a new season. — Marsha Phillipy, Grand Junction, Colo.

A: It will, but the end of the edgy FX series is coming. It’ll be back in January to complete its fifth season with eight new installments. Then 19 more episodes will be produced, with the show ending in 2011 when it has reached a total of 100 episodes.
