Trisha Yearwood

Concert preview: Trisha Yearwood at Artpark

Story tools:

From a humble family farm in the deep South to the highest highs of country music fame, it has been quite a journey for Trisha Yearwood. She started as a receptionist at the offices of an independent record label in Nashville, but by 1991 she’d become the first female in the history of country music to break the platinum barrier with a debut album. Today, the home Yearwood shares with husband Garth Brooks is surely littered with awards — Yearwood already has three Grammys and a pair of CMAs to her name and, with her continued immense popularity, will probably end up with a few more before she’s finished.

Though she flirted with pop-leaning country in the late ’90s and early years of this decade, Yearwood has always been best when she applies her honeyed voice to true, traditional country music. That’s exactly what she did on last year’s excellent “Heaven, Heartache & the Power of Love.” And it’s surely what she’ll do when she takes the stage at Artpark for its free Tuesday in the Park series, beginning at 6:30 p. m. Tuesday. Lori McKenna will open. — Jeff Miers
