TUESDAY, 11 a.m.: Performance by slam poet and spoken word artist Gayle Danley.

Born in New York City and raised in Atlanta, Danley was educated at Howard University and earned a master’s degree in radio, television and film at Syracuse University. A newcomer to the then-emerging genre of slam poetry, she won the 1994 National Individual Slam Poetry competition in Ashville, N. C., and the 1996 International Slam Poet Championship competition in Heidelberg, Germany. Now a teaching artist and performer of “Brilliance,” a one-woman show, she is the author of three books “Naked,” “Soulful—A Slam Poetry Study Guide,” and “Passionate—Poems You Can Feel.”Buffalo and Erie County Central Library Auditorium, 1 Lafayette Square. Free.

TUESDAY, 7 to 9 p.m.: “Just Words,” a poetry workshop with poet Ann Goldsmith. Goldsmith is the author of “The Spaces Between Us” (Outriders Poetry Project, 2010) and “No One is the Same Again” (winner of Quarter Review of Literature Poetry Prize in 1999). WEDNESDAY, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: “Literary Lions of Western New York: Hear Them Roar!” New lecture series on area literary history featuring “Theatrical Lions 1, Steele MacKaye (1842-1894), Playwright, Actor and Inventor” with instructor Michael Harris.
