Back for Seconds

Though you know him primarily as a founding member of the highly influential, awesome-to-name-drop- at-the-club hardcore punk band 7 Seconds, Kevin Seconds pursued a concurrent solo career almost from that band’s beginnings, back in 1979. On Tuesday, you’ll have a rare opportunity to witness Seconds doing his solo- act thing, when he comes to the Town Ballroom for a 7 p. m. show.

Instead of manning the massive stage in the rear portion of the Town, Seconds will perform in the much more intimate environs of the Leopard Lounge, the smaller, vaguely Keith Richards- esque mini-club on your right as you enter the venue. This is an all-ages show, with $10 admission. Can’t miss.

Travers for free

Pat Travers never became as much of a household name as, say, Aerosmith, or even Johnny Winter, but throughout the 1970s, the Toronto- born guitar prodigy released a string of immensely powerful, soulful and well-produced rock albums with his Pat Travers Band, records that were on par with the best of the era’s best. The classic “Live! Go for What You Know” crystallized Travers and Co.’s ability to blend rock, soul, blues and funk into a steaming stew. The PTB was a guitar-lover’s delight, and though he isn’t often credited for his influence, Travers’ ability to make rock funky predated the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ similar approach by a few decades.

Though he really only had two major radio hits — the evergreen “Boom Boom (Out Go the Lights)” and the deliciously nasty “Snortin’ Whiskey” — Travers never stopped releasing well-actualized albums, marked by his rich singing voice, all-but-peerless guitar playing and unwavering songwriting smarts.

Travers plays a free show at 6 p. m. Saturday as part of the Gateway Park Concert series in Tonawanda.

Gig picks

Tonight, following the Blink 182/Fall Out Boy show at Darien Lake, Pete Wentz, bassist with the latter group, will offer up a DJ set inside Pure Nightclub (75 West Chippewa St.), beginning at midnight. Producers expect members of the bands on the Darien Lake bill to be in attendance. After party, dude!

A very cool multi-act bill comes to the Town Ballroom on Tuesday, in the form of “Loud Guys Against Violence Against Women,” a benefit concert for the Family Justice Center of Western New York. The all-ages show will feature performances from Floozie, Critt’s Juke Joint, Rev and Kryszt. In addition to raising money and awareness, the show will act as a joint CD release party for the artists, each of whom has a new release to celebrate. Tickets are $5 at the door. The show starts at 7 p. m.

Delmark Goldfarb, who graduated from Amherst High School in 1968 and has been working as a folk-blues troubadour ever since, will return to town this weekend to “sit in” with Noa Bursie during the latter’s set on Saturday inside Nietzsche’s. The show starts at 8 p. m. A cool piece on Goldfarb from the Huffington Post can be found at

. Albert Castiglia plays the Lafayette Tap Room at 8 p. m. Thursday.
