THE CORRECTIONS, a pop/rock band that has been running around the Buffalo concert circuit for years, is gearing up for some busy months. The band — guitarist and singer Guillermo Izquierdo, bassist Tim Mroz, guitarist Mark Ricci, drummer Cave Wilson and keyboardist/background vocalist Julie Arlotta — is releasing a new CD this spring, and is headlining a show Saturday evening in Nietzsche’s (248 Allen St.). Izquierdo took some time to talk about the Corrections, the upcoming CD and his own musical career.

When did you first pick up a guitar?

Probably when I was in eighth grade. I think it was therapy more than anything else, to vent what was going on in my life. I never have been a schooled player; it was more about the art than the actual mechanics.

When did the Corrections get together?

We started in late 2003. We had some down time, but regrouped after 2005. 2005 was the same year, ironically, that we won a Buffalo Music Award.

You were also a member of Bread Gone Wry and Original Skin. How were those experiences different from the Corrections?

Due to its popularity, it was through Bread Gone Wry that most people in the scene got to know me. With that band, one of the big differences was that Tara Neil [now Gabel] sang lead on the majority of our songs.

With Original Skin, a much more rock-oriented band, I returned to lead vocals. In Original Skin I only played electric guitar. In the Corrections, I stick to acoustic guitars and mandolin. I had great experiences and a lot of fun with all of these bands and remain close friends with all my former band mates.

You have a new lineup to show off now.

Julie Arlotta, who is a mutual friend of ours, who I actually met in church, is our new keyboardist. She definitely is a fantastic singer and adds a new dimension to our group. Her strong vocals offer a new element to our music.

You have a new CD coming out in the spring. What can we expect from it?

Well, it’s going to be six songs and we are still mixing and fine tuning. We are shooting for a February release. We did most of the recording in Hoboken, N. J., with producer Dan McLoughlin, who is absolutely fantastic to work with. We were big fans of his track record and the stuff he did with the Push Stars.
