Comes a-Courtin

Since the release of her Nonesuch Records debut album last summer, Christina Courtin has taken to the road, hoping to deliver on the overwhelmingly positive critical reception her delightfully skewed folk-pop-jazz-Tin Pan Alley songs earned from critics across the country, this one included.
Though she hails from the Buffalo area—Williamsville, to be exact—Courtin earned her musical individuality in New York City, where, after attending Juilliard, she apprenticed with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma and Dawn Upshaw, while simultaneously (and covertly, at first) pursuing her love of the pop song.
Blessed with a remarkably agile, emotive voice, in possession of serious musical chops as a violinist, and most significantly, able to project a distinct personality through her charming, idiosyncratic songs, Courtin is poised to break through to a significant worldwide audience. She’s home now, for a show at 8 tonight inside the Tralf
Music Hall (622 Main St.). Elizabeth&the Catapult will open the show. Tickets are $10-$12 (Tralf, Ticketmaster).
