He’s back…

Country superstar Garth Brooks is coming out of retirement.

The move has been rumored in the music industry for weeks, but Brooks, 47, made it official at a news conference Thursday in Nashville.

“We’re going to take the retirement roof off over our head, and I already feel taller,” Brooks said.

Brooks said he has no immediate plans and will see how things go in the coming years.

“As for touring, if I can’t eat it, sleep it, breathe it, then it ain’t me,” Brooks said.

Brooks retired in 2000 to spend more time with his three children. He’s occasionally popped up in special appearances at awards shows and charity events, but has mostly stayed out of the limelight.

Rest with Marilyn…

The mausoleum crypt above Marilyn Monroe is going back on the auction block.

Bidding for the marble crypt will start at $500,000 beginning Monday, according to organizer Eric Gazin of AuctionCause.com. A previous $4.6 million bid for the space fell through in August when Elsie Poncher first attempted to auction off her late husband’s former crypt. Richard F. “Fred” Poncher was moved to the crypt next to his former one, which he also owned.

The new eBay.com auction will end Oct. 29 and requires a 1 percent to 5 percent refundable deposit, based on the bid. Gazin says he believes the crypt at the Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery will fetch “millions of dollars” at auction.

On the eBay auction— www.ebay.com/eternitywithmarilyn —the sellers wrote, “Fred Poncher, being the true entrepreneur that he was, would love the fact that so many years after his death he found a way to still provide for his family by offering his spot above Marilyn to another admirer.”

Peas appeal…

Black Eyed Peas singer apl. de. ap has flown to his native Philippines following devastating back-to-back storms to perform a benefit concert and deliver much-needed aid.

“I just want to tell everybody that my heart goes out to you guys and I will try my best to help out,” he said.

A Los Angeles resident whose real name is Allan Pineda Lindo, apl said he was concerned when he saw television footage of the devastation and decided to make a brief visit. The worst flooding in 40 years struck the rice-growing northern Philippines and the capital Manila late last month when a typhoon dumped heavy rains that triggered landslides and inundated towns, killing 712 people and affecting more than 7 million.

In addition to a concert with local artists, apl brought canned goods from California, donated cash and appealed for more money for the victims from around the world.

The hip-hop singer, who was adopted at 14 and moved to the United States, said he remains proud of his roots.

Swift’s new gig…

Kanye West apparently is not on the invitation list, but don’t be surprised if he (or an impersonator) turns up anyway when Taylor Swift hosts “Saturday Night Live” on Nov. 7.

Swift, who performed on the program in January, will be hosting for the first time, which she said in a statement is “mind-blowing. I love being around people who I feel have a different kind of creative genius. And the funny genius is definitely a fascinating one to be around.”
