Playing Meghan…
Meghan McCain, 24, wants Hilary Duff to play her in the big-screen version of her forthcoming memoirs. “I think she’s really hot—hotter than me —but I’d still want her to play me,” Meghan tells the New York Daily News.
Meghan, the daughter of Republican Sen. John McCain, says the tome is half memoir, half political tract. “It’s like ‘Primary Colors’ meets Tori Spelling’s ‘sTORI Telling,’” she says, adding that it will, like, totally examine “what it means to be a progressive Republican in the party today.”
Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly Online reports that Duff will join CW’s “Gossip Girl” beginning with the Oct. 5 episode, playing a film star who wants to have a normal college life at NYU.
Leno wins…
Television host Jay Leno has won control of a Web address using the name of his new show.
The U. N.’sWorld Intellectual Property Organization says current owner Guadalupe Zambrano of Katy, Texas, will have to transfer the domain name—thejaylenoshow. com—to the comedian.
The agency says Zambrano failed to demonstrate he had a legitimate reason for registering the address five years ago while Leno was still hosting “The Tonight Show.”
Zambrano used the site to redirect Web surfers to his real estate business.
“The Jay Leno Show” premieres Sept. 14 on NBC.
Fighting Fox…
Former Fox News entertainment writer RogerFriedman is suing his old bosses for more than $5 million after he was fired for reviewing a leaked copy of Fox’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
Friedman is seeking damages for libel and legal fees in a suit that names Fox as well as News Corp. and its chairman, RupertMurdoch, as defendants. He is accusing Fox of violating his contract with the firing, which came after his April 2 review of “Wolverine” appeared on Fox’s Web site. Friedman wrote the piece based on a version he found on the Internet before its official release.
Fox News said it has not been served with the suit. A spokeswoman declined to comment any further on the case. In the filing, Friedman claims he contacted an in-house attorney at Fox to get the column cleared but that she never responded. He said none of his editors raised objections.
Friedman said he contacted his editor after the review was removed from the site April 3 and was told Murdoch had ordered the story taken down but that he shouldn’t worry about his job. News Corp. nevertheless fired Friedman April 4 and released a public statement saying the company has “zero tolerance for any action that encourages and promotes piracy.”
Friedman, who had worked at Fox for 10 years and earned an annual salary of $250,000, is looking for $5 million in damages plus $180,000 in legal fees.
Altar-bound…
The eldest Jonas brother, Kevin, and his girlfriend Danielle Deleasa are engaged to be married.
The 21-year-old Jonas is one-third of the popular Jonas Brothers, along with Joe and Nick Jonas. A spokeswoman for the Jonas Brothers confirmed the engagement.
In a statement, Kevin’s parents, Kevin Sr. and Denise Jonas, said they were “filled with joy.” The young couple have not yet set a date. Their engagement was first reported by People magazine.
People quoted Kevin Jonas as describing his girlfriend’s reaction as “She said ‘yes, yes, yes’ like 500 times super fast in a row.”
