The daily dish... a spicy serving of celebrity news
Broderick babies…
Matthew Broderick was back on the Broadway stage Tuesday night after visiting his newborn twin daughters in Ohio, telling People magazine that he was “very happy” at the two little additions to the family.
Marion Loretta Elwell Broderick weighed 5 pounds and 11 ounces, and Tabitha Hodge Broderick weighed 6 pounds. Hodge and Elwell are family names on wife SarahJessicaParker’s side, publicist Simon Halls said.
The girls, born to surrogate Michelle Ross in Martins Ferry, Ohio, arrived earlier than their midsummer due date, but their parents were well prepared for their arrival.
“They’ve been gearing up for the birth of the girls, getting everything ready,” a friend of the family told People. “They are very excited. This is a big thing for them.”
Spector’s requests…
Legendary music producer Phil Spector is hoping to have a television, iPod and computer access in his prison cell—but not a musical instrument.
Spector was transferred this week to the largest state prison in California, where he will serve his sentence of 19 years to life for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson.
As a medium-security inmate at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison at Corcoran, Spector can make some requests for items he wants in his cell. “He wants a TV and an iPod or something like that for listening to music,” said his wife, Rachelle Spector. “And he would like to be able to receive e-mail.”
Prison officials said Phil Spector may even be allowed a musical instrument, noting that some state inmates have made similar requests and play together in groups. However, Rachelle Spector said her husband doesn’t plan to make music behind bars. “He has not requested an instrument, and I doubt if he will,” she said.
Splitsville…
The romance is over for Nick Lachey and VanessaMinnillo.
“They have amicably split but remain good friends who still greatly care for one another,” Minnillo’s rep said in a statement.
The pair had been dogged by repeated reports that their relationship was on the rocks, but they denied that there was trouble. Earlier this month Minnillo, an actress and former MTV VJ, told People that she and Lachey were “very much still on.”
A source says Minnillo, 28, and Lachey, 35, are “still friends. It was the right thing for both of them to do.” Lachey and Minnillo became a couple in 2006 after they met during a shoot for his music video for “What’s Left of Me.”
Jon and Kate update…
Jon and Kate Gosselin are taking a TV break. The couple’s TLC show “Jon & Kate Plus 8” is going on hiatus to give the Gosselin family time to “regroup, and then a modified schedule will be in place to support the family’s transition,” TLC said.
Divorce papers Kate Gosselin filed in Montgomery County Court outside Philadelphia, obtained by the Associated Press, said her marriage to Jon was “irretrievably broken.” She said in the filing that she’s willing to “negotiate a fair and reasonable” settlement with her husband of 10 years. Her lawyer, Cheryl Young, said the couple has already started working on terms.
The network announced that a retrospective of Jon and Kate’s 10-year marriage would air at 9 p. m. Monday, followed by a hiatus until Aug. 3.
