The daily dish... a spicy serving of celebrity news
Beauty’s pricetag…
Jessica Simpson has been idealized for her beauty and slammed for her looks after she wore high-waisted jeans on stage in Florida last winter. Now she will be the one investigating “The Price of Beauty” for a VH1 documentary series.
Simpson will travel the world investigating, and occasionally participating in, regimens women go through to conform to the beauty ideals of their culture, according to VH1.
In a statement, Simpson said the concept of the show left her “immediately intrigued. I have always believed that beauty comes from within and confidence will always make a woman beautiful, but I know how much pressure some women put on themselves to look perfect. I am really looking forward to discovering how beauty is perceived in different cultures and participating in some of the crazy things people do to feel beautiful.”
Simpson, who will begin filming the show in July, “has been doing research into some of the insane things people do to try to make themselves more beautiful and she is shocked,” said a source close to the star. “She thinks it will be fun to try some of them.”
Surrogate delivery…
The Ohio woman who was carrying twins for Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick gave birth to two girls in the town of Martins Ferry.
Parker and Broderick were reportedly at the hospital with their babies Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the police chief of Martins Ferry and one from a neighboring town are being investigated after the surrogate’s house was entered while she was pregnant, apparently to collect either Parker’s messages from her telephone answering machine or photos to sell to a tabloid.
The Martins Ferry chief, Barry Carpenter, says he did enter the surrogate’s home, claiming he saw a door open and wanted to check on her welfare, but did not take any photos or listen to answering machine messages.
Investigators seized Carpenter’s cell phone and some computers in the investigation, which is continuing.
Star-studded…
Fellow celebrities turned out to celebrate with Cameron Diaz when she received her star on Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame.
Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Lucy Liu, who starred with Diaz in the “Charlie’s Angels” films, joined hundred of fans who witnessed Diaz’s honor in front of the Egyptian Theater. Also in the crowd were Diaz’s mother, Billie, and older sister Chimene.
Diaz, 36, said, “I dedicate this star to the eternal love that my mom and dad shared. It was what has given me the strength and courage to live this extraordinary life.”
Her father, Emilio Diaz, died in April 2008 at age 58.
Witty Betty…
Ryan Reynolds says his co-star in “The Proposal” really knows how to deliver a ribald joke—and he’s talking about Betty White, not Sandra Bullock.
Reynolds says the 87-year-old White had the best exit line when shooting wrapped. White told the cast and crew it was the “most fun” she’d ever had making a movie, then added, “standing up.”
“The Proposal,” which topped the box office in its opening weekend, proved to Reynolds that he and longtime friend Bullock had onscreen chemistry.
That connection can’t be manufactured and is either there “magically” or it’s not, Reynolds said, adding, “we had it and it was amazing.”
