Type-cast …
Despite landing roles alongside Tom Cruise in “Mission Impossible III” and Bruce Willis in “Live Free or Die Hard,” Maggie Q says Asian actors still have a hard time getting good roles in Hollywood movies.
The 29-year-old actress, whose full name is Maggie Quigley, told the Associated Press in an interview Tuesday that 90 percent of the scripts she receives are written for Caucasian female characters. “The first part of it is going into a room [for an audition] and trying to quell this stigma that people have about Asians only doing certain kinds of roles and Asians only being looked at a certain way,” Quigley said. “You run into these stereotypes a lot.”
She described competing for roles in Hollywood as a battle. “It’s a struggle. You got to win roles. You really got to fight for them. When I left Asia and went to the
U. S., essentially I was starting over. It’s very hard. It’s a lot of work,” she said.
Miley’s memoir …
Pop sensation Miley Cyrus has finished writing a memoir — at the age of 15.
The “Hannah Montana” star was reportedly paid a seven-figure sum to tell her “inspiring story.”
The daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus has also said she wants to return to the show for a fourth season. “Hopefully I’m going to go into Season Four, but we’re not sure so right now we’re just getting through Season Three,” she told
BBC News. Cyrus has starred as Hannah Montana since 2006, and has also had two best-selling albums and a successful concert movie. “Hannah Montana: The Movie” is due out next year.
When the book plan was announced earlier this year, publishers Disney said Cyrus would “reveal how her solid relationship with her family, especially her mother Leticia, helps her navigate the spotlight.”
Standard issue …
Rolling Stone magazine is shrinking with the times.
After more than four decades of standing out with its 10-by-12 inch size, it will adopt the standard format of other magazines starting with the Oct. 30 issue, due out this week.
The adoption of a standard format could boost single-copy sales and reduce production costs for advertising inserts such as scent strips and tear-out postcards. The magazine says any cost savings, though, will be offset by the inclusion of more pages and the shift to thicker, glossier paper.
Rolling Stone chose Barack Obama, for the cover of the Oct. 30 issue. By contrast, the last issue in the oversize format featured a cartoon of Obama’s opponent, John McCain.
A break-up tune …
It seems that Kenny Chesney’s heart-rending breakup with Renee Zellweger has finally paid off.
He tells USA Today that his new CD, “That Lucky Old Sun,” was inspired by the bust-up.
“It’s no secret — there are about four or five songs that are about Renee,” says Chesney, who began crafting the album after his annulment. “It’s a pretty emotional record for me, a very honest record. There are some songs … that needed to be written.”
