TV Mail Box / News from ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’
Q: Why is Alicia Witt no longer on “Law & Order”? — Charles Sanders, Loxahatchee, Fla.
A: That would be “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” and she was brought into the USA Network show (later seen in repeats on NBC) when Julianne Nicholson went on maternity leave. Nicholson’s return meant the end of Witt’s stint — and, ironically, the other half of that detective team is now leaving.
After the success of the “Sex and the City” movie, Chris Noth reportedly couldn’t come to monetary terms with the show’s producers over re-upping, so Jeff Goldblum has been hired as his successor.

Q: I was wondering if there is going to be another season of “What I Like About You.” — Marissa Brooks, Columbus, Ohio
A: No. The sitcom that aired on the now-defunct WB is over and done. Amanda Bynes has moved largely into the feature-film arena, as in last year’s “Hairspray” and “Sydney White,” and Jennie Garth — who had a commendable run on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” last fall — has signed up for her earlier series’ “90210” spinoff that begins soon on The CW. She’ll reprise the role of Kelly Taylor, who’s now a guidance counselor.

Q: What happened to “Chuck”? It hasn’t come back after the writers strike, and I really miss it. — Chris Johnson, Wichita, Kan.
A: Give it about two months, as far as new episodes are concerned. Zachary Levi’s NBC comedy-adventure starts its second season Sept. 29 — but if you need a concentrated dose of the show before that, Warner Home Video is slated to release the DVD set of the complete first season Sept. 16.

Q: I’d like to know if Laura Prepon, alias Donna from “That ’70s Show,” has anything going on. — Tom Waldhuetter, Brookfield, Wis.
A: Not that we know of at the moment. Since she didn’t know until May that her ABC series “October Road” would be canceled, she missed out on the fall pilot season. However, she’s done a voice-only role opposite Tim Curry, Lance Henriksen and Danielle Fishel (“Boy Meets World”) in an animated movie titled “The Chosen One,” planned for release sometime this year.
