The names crowded in from Wendi and Rupert Murdoch to Lance Armstrong to Vernon Jordan. And the charming Whoopi Goldberg ran into the charming Frank Langella with whom she once consorted, so it was all fun and frisson. And if you weren’t invited, well, listen — it happened in a town house, not Yankee Stadium.

LOS ANGELES — Britney Spears will have expanded visits with her sons following a child-custody hearing that went off without a hitch Tuesday, capping a three-month period of relative calm and stability for the troubled pop star and mother of two.
The movie line at the Transit Road Regal Theater was huge. It was also full of more little girls and their mothers than I’ve seen in one place since I did chauffeur duty for my daughter when she was on the preteen birthday party circuit.
