Summer games
Let the culinary contests begin! The Frog Hair Restaurant (7800 Transit Road, Williamsville) has kicked off its Buffalo Chef competition to find, they say, the local “Iron Chef.” Here’s how it works: Two top chefs will compete weekly for the title on the restaurant patio every Monday evening this summer at 7 p. m.
Each will be given secret ingredients that they must work with to produce two dishes within an hour for judging by other chefs and a celebrity guest.
Some of the participating chefs and restaurants include Protocol, Creekview, Fiamma Steakhouse, Carmelo’s, Lombardo’s, Lancaster Country Club, Brian Mietus of Bacchus, Chris Daigler of Encore, Ray Flor from City Grill and Louis Zanghi formerly of LeMetro. For more information, call the restaurant at 839-3764 or visit www.thefroghair.com . Summer menu
A new menu just introduced at Oliver’s (2095 Delaware Ave.) will be in effect throughout the summer. Specialties include free-range baby hen cooked under a brick with dry vermouth and olive sauce; Roast Duckling Four Seasons served with ribbons of carrot, zucchini and yellow squash, wild rice and blood orange/ green peppercorn sauce; and double-cut lamb chops with a farro salad — this ancient grain is going to turn out to be this year’s trendy ingredient; you heard it here first.
The bar menu, called “small plates,” remains in effect, along with pasta dishes. The restaurant is open for dinner seven days. The restaurant’s phone number is 877-9662.
