TODAY, 1 to 5 p.m.: Public opening of “Discovering James Joyce: The University at Buffalo Collection” in conjunction with the North American James Joyce Conference. UB Anderson Gallery, 1 Martha Jackson Place.
TUESDAY, 5 to 10 p.m.: Bloomsday Buffalo, an evening of James Joyce-related events and performances to celebrate the date in 1904 when the author’s novel “Ulysses” is fictionally set in Dublin, Ireland. Shea’s Smith Theatre, 660 Main St. WEDNESDAY, 7p.m.: Talk, slide show and book signing by curator Russell Howse, editor of “Stencil Nation: Graffiti, Community, and Art,” a new 192-page, 500-photograph compilation of images and writing about contemporary graffiti art featuring the work of more than 350 artists from 28 countries. Hallwalls Cinema, 341 Delaware Ave. WEDNESDAY, 7:30 p.m.: The Screening Room Series open reading featuring poets Peter Vullo, Marek Parker and Carl Schneider. Additional reading slots available. THURSDAY, 7:30 p.m.: Talk and book signing featuring cultural critic Hal Niedzviecki, author of “The Peep Diaries: How We Learned to Love Watching Ourselves and Our Neighbors,” a travelogue, personal meditation and social history that explores the rapidly emerging digital culture of exhibitionism/voyeurism that is radically changing the firmaments of our society. Sugar City, 19 Wadsworth St. (near Allen).
SATURDAY, 2 to 3:30 p.m.: The Stop, Look, and Listen Poetry Series featuring Denise Amodeo Miller. Additional reading slots available. Impact Artists’ Gallery, Suite 545, Tri-Main Center, 2495 Main St. SATURDAY, 2p.m.: Talk and book signing by David Hess, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute professor of Science and Technology Studies. Hess is the author of “Localist Movements in the Global Economy,” a new book in which he examines efforts to reclaim economic and political sovereignty for metropolitan regions, offering an overview of localism in the United States and assessing its potential to address pressing global problems of social justice and environmental sustainability.
