MONDAY, 7 p. m.: Wordflight Series poetry reading and Tanka Writing Workshop led by Dennis Maloney, author of “The Map Is Not The Territory,” translator of “The Landscape of Castile” by Antonio Machado and “The House in the Sand” by Pablo Neruda, and publisher of White Pine Press. TUESDAY, 8 p. m.: UB Exhibit X Fiction and Prose readings by Matthew Derby and Vijay Seshadri. Derby is the author of “Super Flat Times: Stories” (Little Brown, 2003). Seshadri is author of “Wild Kingdom” (Graywolf Press, 1996). Hallwalls Cinema, 341 Delaware Ave.
WEDNESDAY, 4:30 p. m.:
Rooftop Poetry Club reading featuring fiction writer Kim Chinquee and Alessandro Porco. Chinquee’s collection of flash fiction, “Oh Baby,” was published by Ravenna Press, and her collection of prose poems, “Big Cages” is forthcoming with White Pine Press. Porco’s latest collection of poetry is “Augustine in Carthage, and Other Poems” (ECW Press, 2008). FRIDAY, 7:30 p. m.: “Battle of the Birds: A Tale of the West Highlands,” a Spin-a-Story Tellers program featuring storyteller Lorna Czarnotta. University United Methodist Church, 410 Minnesota Ave. (at Bailey).
FRIDAY, 8 p. m.: Oscar Silverman Memorial Reading featuring poet and translator Alastair Reid, a staff writer and South American editor of the New Yorker and one of the principal English language translators of Neruda and Borges. 250 Baird Hall, UB North Campus.
