They come in a flavor and size for everyone on your gift list — and prices to match your budget.

A DVD gift can range from an affordably priced stocking stuffer to a massive gift set in clever packaging. Whether you're looking for a last-minute gift, something to add to your own list, or a holiday treat to watch with the family, here's a guide to new gift sets and holiday-themed DVDs.

Gift sets

The past few years have seen a trend for really big, costly DVD sets (some going as high as $500), but there is a more down to earth feeling this holiday season. Yes, there are still large, pricey sets, but many sets are reasonably priced.

The most cleverly packaged set of the season has to be "Futurama: The Complete Collection 1999-2009" ($199.99, Twentieth Century Fox). This fun collection has 72 episodes from Matt Groening's Planet Express crew on 19 discs, housed inside a Bender head case. Also included are four feature-length adventures ("Bender's Big Score," "The Beast With a Billion Bucks," "Bender's Game" and "Into the Wild Green Yonder"), commentaries, deleted scenes, blooper reels and an interactive still gallery. Be sure to look under the bottom flap of the box for the full episode guide and a letter from Groening and David X Cohen.

Baseball fans will be entertained until spring training with the "Official Major League Baseball World Series Film Collection" ($229.95, A&E Home Entertainment). The 20-disc set is housed inside a commemorative book with a 58-page pictorial and retrospective and a forward by Bob Costas. Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson, Johnny Bench, Derek Jeter and Albert Pujols are just a few of the players you'll see in action.

For fans of music history, the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Live" ($119.96, RockHallDVDs.com or TimeLife.com) is a nine-disc set that revisits some of the greatest moments in the hall's 25-year history. Mick Jagger, Cream, U2, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis and the Who are featured among the 125 performances, plus there are 52 acceptance speeches.

Let's not leave out the kids. Everyone's favorite little yellow sponge arrives in "SpongeBob SquarePants: The First 100 Episodes" ($99.98, Nickelodeon). SpongeBob recently celebrated 10 years on the air. Here are all the episode from the first five seasons, plus special features on 13 discs.

"Adult Swim in a Box" ($69.98, Adult Swim) is a sampling of what the adult programming block "Adult Swim" (found on the Cartoon Network) offers. There are full seasons of "Aqua Teen Hunger Force," "Space Ghost Coast to Coast," "Morel Orel: The Unholy Version," "Robot Chicken," "Metalocalypse" and "Sealab 2021," plus a bonus disc with five pilot episodes.

"The Complete Love Comes Softly Collection" ($99.98, 20th Century Fox) marks the debut of the full set of the eight Hallmark Channel TV movie adaptations of Janette Oke's much-loved "Love Comes Softly" books. Look for a pre-"Grey's Anatomy" Katherine Heigl in the first two movies. Also starring are January Jones ("Mad Men"), Patty Duke Astin and Dale Midkiff.

It wouldn't be the holidays without "Harry Potter" gift sets. This year, it's the ultimate edition for the first two films (with more to follow). "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Ultimate Edition" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Ultimate Edition" (Warner Home Video) are each three-disc sets ($39.92 DVD, $49.99 Blue-ray) with five hours of special features, theatrical and extended versions of the film, a 48-page collectible photo book and character cards.

Each movie also has a new one-hour featurette. Here's the selling point: If you buy all eight of these ultimate editions, you'll have a new eight-hour documentary called "Creating the World of Harry Potter."

Dance your cares away with "Fraggle Rock Complete Series Set Bookcase" ($99.98, Lionsgate). The 20-disc set has all 96 episodes of the kid-friendly series (that's about 47 hours of content), plus eight more hours of bonus features. Fraggle fans will also enjoy "A Merry Fraggle Rock" ($14.98, Lionsgate), three holiday-themed episodes, plus a sing-along with Emmet Otter's Jug-Band, trivia, a game and "The Great Fraggle Freeze" animated episode.

The Oscar-winning documentary "March of the Penguins" ($39.95) arrives in a limited edition gift set with a plush penguin, eight collectible penguin postcards and a new disc with the feature-length documentary about warm-weather African penguins.

"National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation Ultimate Collector's Edition" ($39.92 DVD, $49.99 Blu-ray (WHV). This 20th anniversary gift set, celebrating the Griswold family (headed by Chevy Chase), has fun collectibles including a replica of Clark Griswold's holiday Santa hat, drink coasters with quotes from the film, a box of faux snow and more. A moose figurine is added to the the Blu-ray set.

The affordable "Mama Mia! The Movie — Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! DVD Gift Set" ($34.98 DVD, $49.98 Blu-ray, Universal) has the movie, a CD soundtrack and a 32-page collector's book.

"The Sherlock Holmes Collection" ($29.95, A&E, available Tuesday) is a unique addition to the collection of any Holmes fan. There have been well over 50 actors who have portrayed Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's brilliant detective on film and TV alone. This new three-disc set has the only six surviving episodes that reportedly could be found of Peter Cushing, who starred as Holmes in a 1960s BBC series.

The full series

"Ally McBeal: The Complete Series" ($199.98, Twentieth Century Fox). Extras in this 32-disc set include a new retrospective with cast and creators, including Calista Flockhart, Lucy Liu, Greg Germann and David E. Kelley; vintage featurettes, including the Season 2 TV special, "Life and Trials of Ally McBeal." "The Best of Ally McBeal" soundtrack has never-before-released songs.

"Dawson's Creek: The Complete Series" ($119.95, Sony). Katie Holmes, James Van Der Beek, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams starred in Kevin Williamson's semiautobiographical series about high school pals in a fictional New England town. This 24-disc set has all 127 episodes. New extras include an interview with Williamson reflecting on his series; a trivia game; deleted scenes from the pilot, including the original ending; and a music CD with songs from the soundtrack. The collectible packaging has photos, bios and trivia.

"Farscape: The Complete Series Megaset" ($149.95, A&E Home Entertainment). This 25-disc set commemorates the 10th anniversary of the cult sci-fi classic. There are 88 episodes, plus 15 hours of bonus programming, including 29 episode commentaries, documentaries, featurettes, video profiles featuring the cast and crew discussing their characters, more than 90 minutes of deleted scenes, slideshows, archival photo galleries and cast interviews.

"The Shield: The Complete Series" ($159.95, Sony). Take home the entire 88 episodes of this controversial and much lauded cop drama starring Michael Chiklis. A 34-page anthology book includes a letter from show creator Shawn Ryan, plus there are two new featurettes including a behind-the-scenes look at the final episode. Cast and crew commentaries are included for each episode.

Made for the holidays

Hallmark Channel viewers will remember "Moonlight & Mistletoe," "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" and "The Christmas Choir" as three feel-good movies that debuted on TV last year. They're available now on DVD, priced at only $14.98 each. Better yet: the distributor, Gaiam America, is offering those three movies along with the double feature, "The Christmas Child"/"A Time to Remember" for sale at only $25 via its Web site (www.gaiam.com; look under inspiration DVDs).

Two other made-for-TV movies, "A Christmas Proposal" and "Christmas Town," are available at $19.99 each (Phase 4 Films).

Leah Thompson stars as a stressed lawyer and mom who wishes for a different life in the Dove Foundation approved movie "The Christmas Clause" ($24.95, MTI Home video).

Warner Home Video has a vast film library to draw from, and it does this well with affordably priced collections:

"TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection: Holiday" ($27.92, WHV) is a great stocking stuffer for classic movie fans. You get Reginald Owen as Ebenezer Scrooge in 1938's "A Christmas Carol"; Barbara Stanwyck as a Martha Stewart-type who can't cook in "Christmas in Connecticut"; Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullivan as bickering co-workers yet loving pen pals in "The Shop Around the Corner" (the inspiration for "You've Got Mail"); and Don DeFore and Ann Harding in "It Happened on 5th Avenue."

The "Holiday Comedy Collection" ($39.92) has "Elf," "Fred Claus" and "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation." The "Holiday Family Collection" ($39.92) features "The Polar Express," "Happy Feet" (not sure what this has to do with the holidays) and the modern classic "A Christmas Story."

For Blu-ray owners, the "Essential Holiday Collection Blu-ray" ($99.99) has "The Polar Express," "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," "Elf" and "A Christmas Story." Each movie has bonus features.

For the kids

The Miser Brothers, those lovable troublemakers who debuted in the 1974 Rankin-Bass special "The Year Without a Santa Claus," gained their owned TV special last year called "A Miser Brothers' Christmas" ($19.98, WHV). The movie comes with a feature on stop-motion animation.

Nothing compares to the classic "A Charlie Brown Christmas," but for those who can't get enough of the Peanuts gang at the holidays, there's "I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown Deluxe Edition" ($19.98, WHV). The bonus episode, "Happy New Year, Charlie Brown" is included.

Barney, Thomas and the gang have been pretty busy putting together holiday-themed sets.

The new "Thomas & Friend: Holiday Express" ($16.98, HIT Entertainment/Lionsgate) comes with a collectible Thomas holiday toy train. The DVD has six episodes plus two games.

"Barney Tee-Riffic Holiday Collection," "Thomas and Friends: Sodor Friends Holiday Collection" and "Bob the Builder: Building Crew Holiday Collection" are three-disc gift sets priced at an affordable $19.98 each (Lionsgate). Also available: "HIT Favorites: Frosty Friends" with Thomas, Barney, Bob, Pingu and Kipper.

"Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed In at the House of Mouse" ($26.99, Disney) is a full-length animated film starring favorite Disney characters, from Mickey and Minnie to Bambi and Dumbo and Pooh and the Lion King. Sing-alongs, premiere episodes of "House of Mouse" and a featurette on the sound effects are included.

"A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa" ($19.99, Disney) finds the Muppets trying to help three letters make their way to Santa. Extra footage, some bloopers, a music video and deleted scenes are included. "Winnie the Pooh Seasons of Giving 10th Anniversary Edition" ($29.99, Disney) has the full-length movie, plus two new-to-DVD Pooh episodes, some songs and a collectible Christmas stocking.

"Dora the Explorer: Dora's Christmas Carol Adventure" ($19.99, Paramount) has two music videos and extra footage. The read-along "The Night Before Christmas: Special Edition" set and "Treasury of 50 Storybook Classics" ($49.95), are both from Scholastic Storybook Treasures.
