The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honors music’s most treasured acts, but this time it was the hall’s turn to be feted, as Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder
and more celebrated the hall’s 25th birthday with a concert that included all-star collaborations, spellbinding guitars, plenty of high notes— and even tears.
Thursday’s extravaganza in Madison Square Garden, the first of two concerts, ran more than five hours and was a reunion of past inductees: Among the performers were Simon & Garfunkel (1990), Crosby, Stills and Nash (1997), Jeff Beck (2009), James Taylor (2000), Bonnie Raitt (2000) and Sting (with the Police, 2003).
“It’s been incredible being in a room with musicians ... who put music in your head,” Springsteen said during his rollicking set, which ran nearly two hours.
Farrell apapaagain ...
It’s another boy for ColinFarrell.
A spokeswoman for the 33-year-old actor said Friday that Farrell and actress Alicja Bachleda welcomed son Henry Tadeusz Farrell on Oct. 7. The couple met while filming “Ondine.”
Farrell has a 6-year-old son, James Padraig Farrell, with model Kim Bordenave. Farrell won a Golden Globe earlier this year for his role as a hit man in “In Bruges.”
EarlyThanksgiving...
Rachael Ray plans to serve an early Thanksgiving dinner to an Ohio community slammed by job losses.
The talk show host and cookbook author is offering people who live in Wilmington a free dinner Nov. 8 at the local convention center. The city in southwest Ohio has lost thousands of jobs due to the pullout of delivery company DHL Express.
A message to Wilmington on Ray’s Web site says her show can’t fix the economy but can do its part through Ray’s area of expertise, food.
Ray won’t be the first sympathetic celebrity to visit Wilmington. Jay Leno came to town in May to perform two free comedy shows.
