You Will Love:
“Casablanca” (1942) starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. This heart-wrenching romance about two lost lovers and a rekindled romance is sure to capture your heart.
“Rear Window”(1954) starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly. This Alfred Hitchcock thriller provided the plot for “Disturbia” with twisted characters and a surprise ending. It is sure to have you on the edge of your seat.
“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” (1969) starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. This classic tale of two Old West outlaws makes for one of the best action and Western films ever made.
“Singin’ In the Rain” (1952) starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor. This timeless musical tells the story of the changing movie industry in 1927 with a romantic comedy twist that is sure to have you singing along.
“Some Like It Hot” (1959) starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe. This film has all the elements of a classic comedy and was rated the No. 1 comedy of all time by the American Film Institute. This outrageously funny film is guaranteed to have you laughing until you cry.
“It’s a Wonderful Life” (1946) starring Jimmy Stewart. This all-time favorite showcases the story of small-town hero George Bailey and one fateful Christmas Eve when he learns what it means to have a wonderful life. It is sure to warm your heart and is a film for the whole family to enjoy.
Some other classic films to check out: “The Maltese Falcon” (1941) starring Humphrey Bogart in a spine-tingling murder mystery. “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” (1939) starring Jimmy Stewart in an enduring story about how one man can change American politics. “The Apartment” (1960) starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley McLaine is a classic romantic comedy that will steal your heart.
My advice to any movie fan would be out with the new and in with the old next time you have a movie night. For more titles, check out the American Film Institute’s Top 100 movie list (many of which appear on this list), and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
Besides, who said that being old is a bad thing? Mary Best is a senior at Alden High School.
Have you ever wanted to go to the movies but are short of cash? Or maybe the plots these days are getting too repetitive for your viewing pleasure? As a somewhat frequent moviegoer, I run into this problem a little too often. For an out-of-the-ordinary (and inexpensive!) movie night, here are some suggestions for classic movies. No matter your movie preference, one of these films is sure to take you on a cinematic adventure.
