Holiday plans

Two “American Idol” alums will get the Christmas spotlight this year, according to the Hollywood Reporter: Carrie Underwood will host a variety show on Fox and Jennifer Hudson will do an autobiographical special on ABC.

Underwood, the fourth-season “American Idol” winner, will host Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton and fellow “Idol” winner David Cook on the one-time two-hour show, which is tentatively titled “Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special.”

The show, set to air Dec. 7, will be executive-produced by “Idol” creator Simon Fuller and will feature a combination of musical performances and comedy sketches written by veterans from “Seinfeld” and “Frasier.”

Season Three veteran Jennifer Hudson will host a show called “Jennifer Hudson: I’ll Be Home for Christmas” for ABC in December. Unlike Underwood’s show, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” will be an autobiographical tour through Hudson’s holiday past.

‘Beautiful beyondwords’

German-born model HeidiKlum has given birth to a daughter, Lou Sulola Samuel—her fourth child.

Klum, who is married to Grammywinning singer Seal, says on her Web site that the baby was born on Friday.

In the message posted Tuesday, Klum says: “She is beautiful beyond words and we are happy that she chose us to watch her grow over the coming years.”

Klum already has two young sons with Seal, whom she married in 2005. The 36-year-old also has another daughter from a previous relationship.

Last month she told People that four was their limit. “It’s a lot!” Klum said. “The noise factor around our table is unbelievable. There’s so much going onMy husband and I sit and look at each other and say, ‘Soon there will be No. 4 at the table. It will be even noisier!’”

Greatest hits

Janet Jackson is topping her latest greatest-hits collection with a new single.

The greatest-hits collection, called “Number Ones,” includes 33 classic Jackson hits and her newest song, “Make Me.” The two-disc album will be released Nov. 17.

“Number Ones” spans the pop star’s career, from her 1986 debut, “Control,” to last year’s “Discipline.” Jackson’s last greatest hits album was released in 1995.

The 43-year-old singer is working on an autobiography and a new studio album set for release next year.

Elvis auction

The King may be dead, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to run your fingers through his hair.

A clump of Elvis Presley’s hair, possibly cut by an Army barber when he went into the service in 1958, is going on the auction block this Sunday at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago.

The hair is part of a collection of more than 200 items that belonged to or are associated with Presley. There are clothes he wore, scarves he threw to screaming fans— who judging by the yellow sweat stains, never washed them—and Christmas cards he sent. And there are lots of records and memorabilia ranging from Elvis dolls to Elvis wrist watches to Elvis Pez dispensers.

All the items belonged to Gary Pepper, president of a Presley fan club and also a friend of the singer, who personally gave him many of the things that will be auctioned, including the hair.

Pepper, who had cerebral palsy, died in 1980, three years after Presley, and left his collection to his nurse, who is putting the items up for auction.
