Q: Why are DVDs released on Tuesdays?— Hugo Murcia, Paterson, N. J.

A: Great question, and it seems the answer largely is business-driven. One theory is that the newest releases lure customers into stores at midweek if they come out then, giving retailers a better chance at sales or rentals throughout the week, rather than just waiting for typically higher business on the weekend.

Also, since most theatrical films arrive on Fridays, a Tuesday release gives DVDs several days for an audience without possible distraction from the latest features in theaters.

Q: What ever happened to Phyllis Davis, from the series “Vega$” with Robert Urich?— Tom Lynch, Barefoot Bay, Fla.

A: Evidently, she has retired from show business. Her last listed credit is the 1995 Steven Seagal movie “Under Siege 2: Dark Territory,” in which she was billed as “Hostage No. 3.” You’ll soon be able to enjoy her work as assistant Bea to Urich’s Dan Tanna again, since “The First Season, Volume 1” of “Vega$” is scheduled to have its DVD release Oct. 20.

Q: Could you tell me what happened to Estelle Getty?— Gladys Passow, Milwaukee

A: The actress who added much to the humor and success of “The Golden Girls” died of natural causes in Los Angeles on July 22, 2008.

With the death of Beatrice Arthur in April, Betty White and Rue McClanahan are the surviving “Golden Girls.”
