Anthony H. Sisti Sr., longtime Sloan highway chief

Anthony H. “Tony” Sisti Sr., a trustee in the Village of Sloan, chairman of the Cheektowaga Planning Board and active member in town politics, died Thursday in Mercy Hospital following a heart attack. He was 75.

Mr. Sisti was born in Buffalo and graduated from East High School. He went on to attend the University of Buffalo and also studied more than 20 years at the state Conference of Mayors Highway and Parks School.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Sisti served as Sloan highway superintendent from 1974 to 1997, and was a trustee of the Cheektowaga-Sloan School Board. He was appointed a village trustee in 2003 before being elected to the board in 2005.

He served as vice chairman and committeemen for the Cheektowaga Democratic Committee, and was a 30-year member of the Sloan Active Hose Company No. 1, for which he served as chaplain and fire commissioner. He also was chairman of the Cheektowaga Fire Alarm Commission and Cheektowaga Fire District Officers Association.

Mr. Sisti was an officer of the Local 815, Civil Service Employees Association.

He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Frank L. Gierlach Post, American Legion, Sloan.

An active Catholic, Mr. Sisti also was a member of St. Andrew’s Church and its church choir.

He also was a lector, Eucharistic minister, cantor, commentator and member of the parish council and choir of St. Agnes Church.

Mr. Sisti was the religious education coordinator for St. Francis Church from 1968 to 1970.

He was a member of the Village of Sloan Arts Council and a volunteer for the Variety Club Telethon.

Survivors include his wife, the former Margaret Lentz; three daughters, Lisa Vaughn, Juliana Krzemien and Maria; two sons, Anthony Jr. and Christopher; two brothers, Frank and John Jr.; and a sister, Rosemary Riccione.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a. m. Monday in St. Andrew’s Church, Crocker and Reiman streets, Sloan.
