Grace W. Turner, a local garden club president whose father was the first manager of General Motors’ Tonawanda Engine Plant, died Friday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. She was 84.

Born Grace Way in Detroit, she moved here in 1937, when her father, A. A. Way, was named manager of the new Chevrolet plant.

She was a graduate of Kenmore High School and Stephens College in Columbia, Mo.

A homemaker, Mrs. Turner was active in the Ken-Ton Garden Club, served as president of the Ken-Sheriton Garden Club and was a master flower show judge emeritus. She also was director of creative arts for the Erie County Fair and a volunteer at the SPCA.

In 1947, she married Robert A. Turner, who died earlier this year. She is survived by two sons, Mark and Michael.

A memorial service will be at 11 a. m. Saturday in Kenmore United Methodist Church, 32 Landers Road.
