And from The Buffalo News, new ways to be the smartest football fan in your neighborhood.
As the pro football season begins – the 54th for the Buffalo Bills and, we are sorry to say, the 14th since the Bills were last in the playoffs – The News is starting the season with a new Bills smartphone app, a new football website and a new TV show for sports fans.
Bills Blitz, the new app and website, will have all of the Bills coverage from the newspaper plus much more – more stories, blog posts, photos, video, tweets, lists, history and other great ways to start (and end) friendly fan fights.
Behind it all is the biggest, most experienced team of sports reporters in Western New York. Mark Gaughan, a Buffalo native, has covered the Bills for 25 years, is a former president of the Pro Football Writers of America and is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame selection committee.
Tim Graham, who previously covered the NFL at ESPN, and Jay Skurski, a Lewiston native, have followed the Bills for years. Sports columnists Jerry Sullivan and Bucky Gleason provide the spice – more on them in a moment.
Photographers James P. McCoy, Mark Mulville and Harry Scull Jr. take hundreds of photos a game. In the newspaper, we can publish only a handful of the best. Bills Blitz will have many more.
Bills Blitz is available on iPhones today and coming soon to Android and to your computer screen at billsblitz.com.
I once heard Donald Graham, the soon-to-be-former owner of the Washington Post, say he read his newspaper the proper way: From the sports section out. I start my day with two of the best sports columnists in the country – Jerry Sullivan and Bucky Gleason.
Starting Friday, Sullivan and Gleason will also be on television – 7 p.m. every Friday and Monday on WBBZ.
The Bucky & Sully Show has been on BuffaloNews.com since last fall, but now the show is moving to the airwaves. Sullivan has been at The News for 24 years, Gleason for 15. They are fun to read and fun to watch.
Tune in Friday night at 7 for the first show this season. Find past shows at buffalonews.com/buckyandsully.
Check out the NFL Preview section in today’s News. Sixteen pages, all color, bigger and better than ever. It is also available on selected newsstands.
