NU basketball player charged after bar scuffle

Story tools:

NIAGARA FALLS—A Niagara University basketball player was charged early Sunday with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after an altercation with a bouncer and police at a Main Street bar.

Christopher M. Armstrong, 20, of Queens, was observed struggling with a bouncer at Whiskey River at about 1:23 a. m., according to a city police report.

As police tried to place handcuffs on Armstrong, he pulled away. Armstrong then was pushed up against a tree and handcuffed, police said. A “use of force” report also was filed.

At the time of his arrest, Armstrong told officers he was a walk-on for the NU basketball team, the report said.

Armstrong is a junior guard and a nephew of former head coach Jack Armstrong, according to the university’s Web site.
