Blasdell panel working to recruit businesses
The Business Recruitment Committee created in Blasdell recently has begun identifying properties in the village, Trustee David Adrian said Wednesday during a meeting of the Blasdell Village Board.
The panel’s first task is to develop an inventory of owners of non-operational business properties — either properties that have been abandoned or business that have gone out of business, Adrian said.
“The next step involves contacting these people,” he said, “and helping them market the property and facilitate finding an appropriate tenant.”
The village is also compiling a list of out-of-town landlords. Adrian said if their properties have code violations and they are not remedied, the committee will urge that owners be cited.
In other matters, renderings for the Lake Street and South Park Avenue face-lift scheduled for March are being developed, Adrian said. The village hopes a $450,000 grant to be administered by the state Department of Transportation will fund crosswalks in the area, vintage lighting and curbing or green space.
Also, a local eyesore on railroad property between Labelle and Martin avenues may be targeted for a cleanup.
Trustee Michael Petrie, who has addressed neighbors’ concerns over the poorly maintained property, said conversations with the office of Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard have indicated prison crews may be available for the cleanup in both the fall and spring. He added that he is awaiting confirmation.
