Good comedy takes time. By that measure, Buffalo’s ComedySportz troupe, which kicks off its 29z-hour long “improvathon” on Saturday in the Riviera Theatre (67 Webster St., North Tonawanda), is shooting for the comedic jackpot. The North Tonawanda-based troupe, part of an international organization of improvisational comedy groups, will take up residence on the Rivera stage at 4 p. m. Saturday and perform in rotating shifts until 9:30 p. m. Sunday. Members of ComedySportz teams from New York City and Washington will also be on hand for the marathon event. The exhaustive comedy stunt will serve as a fundraiser for the Buffalo troupe’s trip to the ComedySportz tournament in July, to be held in Milwaukee. During last year’s inaugural improvathon, which lasted for 32 straight hours, three members of the ComedySportz team managed to perform for the entire stretch, according to Randy Reese, the troupe’s local founder. Tickets are $10, also good for free admission to the troupe’s bimonthly shows at Magruders Restaurant (4995 Broadway St., Depew) through Labor Day.
