EAST AURORA

Next school budget carries a slight decrease in taxes

Story tools:

East Aurora School District taxpayers will see a slight tax decrease next year under a $28.11 million budget that was adopted by the School Board last week for the 2009-10 school year.

Spending will increase by 5.11 percent, with appropriations rising by $1.24 million over the current year. The projected tax levy, however, will remain the same.

Estimated tax rates per $1,000 of assessed valuation are: $33.16 for Aurora, a 20-cent decrease; $32.44 for Colden, a 19-cent drop; and $298.50 for Elma, a $1.72 decrease. Elma’s tax rate is always drastically different due to its property assessments. The Town of Aurora comprises about 96 percent of the district.

The board will hold a public hearing on the budget at 7 p. m. Wednesday in the Main Street School cafeteria.

The public vote will run from 7 a. m. to 9 p. m. May 19 in the Main Street cafeteria.

Running for re-election on the board are incumbents MaryBeth Covert and S. Dennis Holbrook. The board seats carry three-year terms.
