TRIBUTE

Lowered flags to honor state soldier, Marine

Story tools:

Gov. David A. Paterson directed flags on all state government buildings to be flown at half-staff Tuesday in honor of Army Sgt. Daniel J. Beard of Buffalo and Marine Lance Cpl. Blaise A. Oleski of Holland Patent.

Beard died April 3 of noncombat related causes in Al Diwaniyah, Iraq. Oleski died April 8 while supporting combat operations in Helmand, a province of Afghanistan.

“We will always recall their service with pride and undying gratitude, and will never forget the profound sacrifice they have made on behalf of the United States of America,” Paterson said in statement released Friday.
