Orchard Park police, along with the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and the State Police, had their hands full at Monday night’s football game, dealing with problems for a 15-hour period stretching to 4 a. m. Tuesday.

The officers’ long “day” began at about 1 p. m. Monday, when police had to deal with fans who converged on the area long before the stadium lots opened at 3:30 p. m. Orchard Park officers remained on duty processing 50 arrests until about 4 a. m. Tuesday.

“Once again, it disappoints me that some people come to the games and get so intoxicated that they engage in poor behavior,” Orchard Park Police Chief Andrew Benz said Wednesday.

His officers told Benz that the people who were arrested Monday night seemed more uncooperative than in previous games.

That may have something to do with the Bills-Browns game being played at night after long hours of drinking by some fans.

“They’re certainly more challenging for us,” Benz said of the night games. “I think they’re more challenging for everybody.”

Orchard Park logged three arrests outside the stadium and processed 47 other arrests for activity within Ralph Wilson Stadium.
