Man enters guilty plea in Medicaid fraud case
A West Seneca man agreed Wednesday to repay the state Medicaid System more than $9,600 for falsely claiming he treated three brain-injured persons in Erie County last year.
Sean M. Broderick, 31, of Lorry Drive, pleaded guilty before State Supreme Court Justice John L. Michalski to three misdemeanor counts of falsifying business records.
Gary A. Baldauf, head of the State Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Bureau in Western New York, said Broderick’s plea came after he agreed to make full restitution.
The judge warned Broderick that he will likely be placed on probation when he returns to court for sentencing Jan. 12, but if he reneges on his agreement to fully repay the Medicaid system, he could get three, one-year jail terms for his crimes.
Baldauf confirmed that a local medical therapy company that had employed Broderick fired him after learning of his falsehoods.
Broderick declined to comment as he left court.
