Region is disaster-ready, local officials report
The Buffalo region is prepared for any disaster it might face, two top elected officials said Friday.
During a news conference on the steps of City Hall, County Executive Chris Collins and Mayor Byron W. Brown proclaimed September as Disaster Preparedness Month. Brown and Collins gave assurances that the region has engaged in extensive training to ensure that crews can handle disasters.
Federal homeland security experts believe about 40 percent of all communities across the nation are not prepared to respond to a major disaster.
