Woman, two children sent to hospitals in crash

A multiple-vehicle crash at about 6:45 a. m. Thursday on Route 5 in the Town of Hamburg sent several people to area hospitals, authorities said.

Police said a woman, whose identity had not been released, was headed west on Route 5 in the Mount Vernon section of the town when she veered into oncoming traffic and struck three vehicles before hitting another vehicle head-on.

The woman was traveling with two young children in her car. She was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center. The children went to Women and Children’s Hospital, according to reports. Their conditions were unknown.

Occupants of the vehicle that was struck head-on were also taken to the hospital, police said.

Hamburg police were trying to determine the cause of the crash.
