Father enters guilty plea in baby son’s injury case

Story tools:

Dannen Sanders pleaded guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor child endangerment charge related to injuries to his 18-month-old son, who suffered a broken arm and internal injuries March 22.

Sanders, 22, formerly of Lancaster and now Hamburg, entered the plea before Lancaster Village Justice Paul T. Bumbalo.

He was allowed to remain free under Erie County Probation Department supervision pending sentencing Oct. 28. He faces a maximum one-year jail term.

Prosecutor Kristen A. St. Mary said Sanders pleaded guilty to a section of child endangerment law for inappropriate actions linked to the injuries — but not causing the injuries himself. Sanders, who told police his child was accidentally injured, did not go into details during the proceeding.

Sanders and the boy’s mother took him to Women and Children’s Hospital a day after the injury, when hospital officials notified Lancaster police, who charged Sanders with second-degree assault and unlawfully dealing with a child. The boy is now living with his maternal grandmother under court supervision.
