SILVER CREEK
Public works projects have fallen behind
SILVER CREEK — Projects for the village Department of Public Works are about 12 weeks behind schedule because of cleanup efforts after the Aug. 9 flooding.
Ralph Crawford, foreman for the department, told the Village Board on Monday night that his crews are clearing away leaves and trying to finish paving projects left over from the summer.
Meanwhile, board members gave their support to a motion to seek bids for dredging the mouth of the creek.
Crawford said permits have been issued to dredge before the winter weather hits. He said the bids will be returned after they are advertised.
The dredging will be more extensive than in past years because of sediment left after the flooding, Crawford said, adding that sediment also is an issue in some storm sewers.
Areas near the flooded neighborhoods have been cleaned, he said, but some other sewer systems need clearing before heavy rains cause clogging.
Crawford said he is working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to obtain reimbursement for several cleanup projects.
In other matters:
• Police Chief Timothy Roche announced that a ban on street parking from 2 a. m. to 6 a. m. starts Nov. 15.
• The chief reported that there were no Halloween-related problems reported in the village.
• A motion set March 16 as Election Day for two trustee positions. Balloting will be held in the Municipal Building.
