Story tools:

SILVER CREEK — Matt Bogosian was elected president of the Silver Creek School Board during the annual reorganization meeting Wednesday.

Bogosian, who faced no opposition, replaces Martha Howard, who was elected vice president.

Linda Borrello was appointed district clerk and records officer, and Deanna Schettine was named district treasurer.

School Board meetings will remain on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, beginning at 7 p. m.

Board members also received an update on the district’s summer school program, which offers several high school classes and elementary and middle school programs — the latter two focused on enrichment and preparation for the next school year.

High school students also are offered course work in character building, with this week’s topic, perseverance, board members learned.

Classes for summer school are held Mondays through Thursdays.

In other matters:

• The initial phase the $10 million capital improvement project is under way, with the high school cafeteria undergoing renovation, the boiler system replaced and air-conditioning and new wiring being installed throughout the buildings.

New lights have been installed on the football field, which is also being upgraded. Officials noted the soccer field will not be ready in time for the new school year. Ganes will be played at another field.

• Board members recognized Rachel Vaughn, a sophomore who scored a perfect 100 and A-plus at the All-State competition. She plays French horn, scored 98/100 in voice competition and earned a certificate of achievement.
