Public can comment today on City Charter revision
BATAVIA—The public will get its first chance to comment on a revision of the City Charter during a public hearings scheduled for this evening.
The Charter Review Commission, following a yearlong study, is recommending changes—from establishing committees to screen proposed legislation to periodic reviews of population changes in the city’s six wards.
In another room of City Hall, hearings on stiffer penalties for noncompliance with city codes will be held. One deals with unmowed lawns; the other, solid waste and trash disposal. The rules changes were recommended by the Neighborhood Improvement Committee.
The first violation would result in a fine of $250 plus the cost of a city-hired contractor to clean up the property. Repeat offenders could face a lien on the property or jail time.
The hearings begin at 7 p. m.
