PORTAGEVILLE

Grant will be used to restore old building

Story tools:

PORTAGEVILLE—The Portageville Chapel, a nonprofit retreat for organists in Wyoming County, has received a $25,000 grant from the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Restoration. The money is a matching grant from the Environmental Protection Fund.

The grants will be used to restore the building, an 1841 Universalist Church, which will be used as a private rehearsal facility for professional organists. The chapel was listed on both the state and national registers of historic places last year.
