GENESEE COUNTY

Town of Batavia roads target of stimulus aid

Story tools:

BATAVIA—The Genesee County Legislature voted Wednesday to use $860,000, the county’s first funds from the federal government’s stimulus plan, for preventive maintenance on two roads in the Town of Batavia that handle traffic for Genesee Community College.

A two-mile stretch of Hawley Drive and a mile of Batavia-Stafford Townline Road will be repaired this summer. The project will include new signs and guardrails.

The Legislature also approved a contract with Integrated Energy Concepts Engineering of Rochester to design a connection between the Genesee County Nursing Home on Bank Street and the state power grid for up to $60,000. The unreliability of the nursing home’s cogeneration plant prompted the need for a state power grid connection.
