FARMLAND PROTECTION: A free educational workshop about farmland protection will be held on Wednesday at the Niagara County Cornell Cooperative Extension, 4487 Lake Ave., Lockport. The Western New York Land Conservancy, American Farmland Trust and the Cooperative Extension are sponsoring a workshop designed for community leaders, farmers, grant writers, town planners, town attorneys, appraisers and anyone with an interest in farmland protection. The program will run from 7 to 9 p. m. There will be presentations by Patricia Szarpa, executive director of the Western New York Land Conservancy; Diane Held, of American Farmland Trust; and Jason Engel of the state Department of Agriculture and Markets. HEALTH SCREENING: The Weinberg Campus will offer free confidential blood pressure and memory screenings to the public from 4 p. m. to 7 p. m. Wednesday at the campus, 2700 North Forest Road, Amherst. MAD SCIENCE: Global Concepts Charter School, with the Buffalo Museum of Science, will present “Mad Scientists” at 6:30 p. m. Wednesday, in the school gym, 1001 Ridge Road, Lackawanna. Watch balloons explode, writing disappear and more. Afterwards, create your own ice cream sundae. Call 821-1903.

POLISH POMPEII: Ralph Baumgartner will give a Power Point presentation on an archaeological find from north-central Poland at 7:30 p. m. Wednesday in the Harlem Road Community Center, 4255 Harlem Road, Amherst. It dates back to 750 B. C. and has been called the “Polish Pompeii.” Call 639-7543.

CABARET:“ Discovering the Diva,” a special cabaret event, will begin at 7:30 p. m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and at 2:30 p. m. on Sunday in Holy Angels Academy, 24 Shoshone Drive. It will feature songs, readings, poetry, humor and quotes by, for and about women. Cost is $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. Call 834-7120.

ERIE CANAL PROGRAM: Raya Lee, a librarian with the Buffalo and Erie County Library, will present “The Glitz and Glory of the Erie Canal” during a meeting of the Cheektowaga Historical Society at 7 p. m. Thursday in the Alexander Community Center, 275 Alexander St., Cheektowaga. Call 683-1762.

DRUM CONCERT: The Buffalo State College Music Department and the Campus West School music program will present a free concert featuring the Diaspora Drumming Ensemble at 7 p. m. Thursday on the Buffalo State College Campus, Grant Street side. Call 878-6420.
