Bolivar police chief to be honored for bravery

Story tools:

BOLIVAR— Chief Ricky L. Whitney of the Bolivar Police Department is one of five police officers who will be presented with a Medal of Honor from the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police on Wednesday at Mohawk Valley Community College, Utica.

Arriving at an armed robbery in progress on Nov. 19, 2007, Whitney exchanged gunfire with the robber. During a chase in the Wellsville area, the bandit attempted to run down Whitney in a stolen van and rammed an Allegany County Sheriff’s Office cruiser head-on.
