Albion mayor accused of stealing July 4 funds
ALBION — State police arrested the mayor of Albion on Friday on charges that he stole money from a fundraiser meant to defray the cost of the village’s Fourth of July fireworks display.
Mayor Michael A. Hadick surrendered to state police Friday and was charged with petit larceny and official misconduct, both misdemeanors. He was issued an appearance ticket and is due back in Village Court on Wednesday.
Investigators said state police had been looking into the finances of both the village and the mayor when they discovered evidence that Hadick failed to hand over money from the fundraiser.
State police said less than $1,000 was involved in the alleged incident.
Hadick could not be reached to comment Friday night.
