Parks and playgrounds made off-limits to tobacco
SALAMANCA — The City Council on Wednesday adopted a measure banning smoking in all city parks and playgrounds.
Teaming up with Achieve Initiative and Community Action and Response Team the program will eliminate smoking in all city parks and playgrounds acting as a role model to show children nonsmoking behavior. Mayor Jeff Pond sponsored the action, which will allow the Tri-County Tobacco Control Program to provide “tobacco free” signs in tobacco-free parks and playgrounds.
During a brief session the Council agreed to a budget amendment to add increased revenue of $243,469 from casino revenues to the current budget.
The money will be used in sewer and electric budgets, toward a salt barn debt and a fire training center.
The Council also scheduled trick-or-treat night from 6:30 to 8 p. m. Oct. 31. Those residents wanting to participate should turn on outside lights.
