‘Dead Man Walking’ is focus in series of library events

OLEAN — A series of events featuring the book, “Dead Man Walking,” by Sister Helen Prejean, begins tonight with a 6:30 p. m. showing of the movie, starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn and directed by Tim Robbins, in the Olean Public Art Gallery.

The series, sponsored in a collaborative effort by the Cuba Library, Wellsville Library and the Olean Public Library, encourages reading and discussion of the issues in a book selection.

The series will continue at 7 p. m. Oct. 15 in the library gallery with a talk on “The Death Penalty: Current Facts and Issues,” by St. Bonaventure University philosophy professor Barry L. Gan.

The next event is a book discussion in the library moderated by librarian Mary DiRisio at 7 p. m. Oct. 29. The play will be performed at 7:30 p. m. Nov. 5-8 in the Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University, with an audience discussion scheduled after the Nov. 6 performance.

The series ends with a free program and talk by the author at 7 p. m. Nov. 11 in the Quick Center for the Arts, St. Bonaventure University.
